Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 20, 2026

1. Overview

Data is built by Open Interface Engineering, Inc. ("OpenIE", "we", "us"). This policy describes what data the Data IDE collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

2. Local-First Architecture

Data is local-first. Your notebooks, data files, models, and energy receipts are stored on your machine. The cascade engine (levels L0 through L2) runs entirely locally with no network calls. Only L3+ (LLM) requests are sent to remote servers, and only when you explicitly invoke them.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

  • Your notebook contents or source code
  • Your datasets or model weights
  • Your energy receipts or metering data
  • Keystrokes, clipboard contents, or screen captures
  • File system paths or directory structures

4. Data We May Collect

If you opt in to anonymous usage analytics, we may collect:

  • Crash reports (stack traces, no user data)
  • Aggregate feature usage counts (e.g., "notebook opened", "SQL cell executed")
  • Platform and architecture (e.g., "macOS aarch64")
  • Data IDE version number

Analytics are opt-in only. They are disabled by default. You can disable them at any time in settings or by setting OPENIE_TELEMETRY=off in your environment.

5. LLM Requests (L3+)

When the cascade reaches L3 or higher, your query is sent to an LLM provider. The query text is transmitted; your notebook contents, datasets, and local files are not. LLM requests are logged with their energy cost. You can restrict the cascade to L0-L2 (fully local) via configuration.

6. Third-Party Services

Data does not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. If you use optional cloud features (storage, collaboration), those are governed by OpenIE's cloud service terms, communicated separately at the time of sign-up.

7. Data Retention

If opt-in analytics are enabled, aggregate data is retained for up to 12 months and then deleted. Crash reports are retained for 90 days. No personally identifiable information is collected or retained.

8. Your Rights

You may disable all analytics at any time. Since we do not collect personal data from the IDE, there is nothing to delete. If you have used OpenIE cloud services and wish to exercise data access or deletion rights under GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws, contact us at [email protected].

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Data after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
